Cold Weather Causes More School Cancelations
Even after having an extra week at the start of January off, the weather continues to cause problems for the school district as record breaking cold came in February. What should have been just a four-day weekend for students, due to Family Advisory Days and the President's Day Holiday, turned into a seven-day weekend instead.
The coldest day was Thursday morning where some areas were recording -10 degree temperatures, breaking a record set in 1918 by more than 2 degrees. For the foreseeable future, everything looks likes it warming up as we head into March. Fingers crossed it lasts.
Spring Fling will be Hopping!
The CMS Pep Club will be hosting the first dance of 2025! The Spring Fling will be on March 13 from 4-6 pm. Tickets will be $5 from Feb 21-28, $7 if bought from March 3-11 and $10 if bought on the 12 or 13th of the dance. Tickets can be bought from Mrs. Funches in room 227 after school.
Students will get a free meal with their ticket and additional concessions will be for sale. The dance will be feature DJ EJ from 2 the Maaxe Entertainment.
Cub Cash Goes Digital!
For years, Central Middle School has used a student reward system known as Cub Cash. In the past teachers have used paper Cub Cash to give students as well as keeping spread sheets that only teachers could access, but this year CMS has gone digital!
Students can see their own Cub Cash totals and even spend their cub cash though PBIS Rewards on their tablets. This give students a level of control over their Cub Cash that they've never had before. Not only can they see how much cash they have and be able to buy from the Cub Store digitally, they can also see why they are gaining their Cub Cash.
"We hope this gives students a level of ownership over their Cub Cash." said Mrs. Louis, the Restorative Justice Person for Central who has taken the lead on getting the Cub Store running this year.
Mrs. Louis had big shoes to fill after the long time runner of the store Mrs. Malcolm left at the end of last year. She was the person who pushed to get a digital system in place so students and families could have more transparency and access to their Cub Cash. She also puts together all the orders that students place on the Cub Store site and deliver them to their Family Advisory classes. All of these things are in addition to her actual job responsibilities at Central.
"Mrs. Louis was dropped into the deep end this year with the Cub Store, but she's done an amazing job of not only picking it up, but also improving on it and making it even better for students and families." said Mrs. George.
The Cub Store will be open every second and fourth Monday during Morning Family Advisory (7:50-8:15 am). Students can buy a variety of items from snacks and treats to opportunities like special seating with their friends at lunch and being able to style the principal's hair!
Parents and families that want to look at their student's Cub Cash can access it on their student's tablet by going to Class Link and then clicking on PBIS Rewards.

The People that Make Central Middle School Great!
Dr. Davila - by Ashley Ipina
Dr.Davila has been an assistant principal at CMS for one year. He is originally from Lubbock Texas. Dr.Davila has two sons, two daughters and four grandchildren. He wanted to get a job in education because he wanted to work with kids and he also had an aunt who was a teacher and he liked it.What he likes most about his job is the kids.
When Dr. Davila's not at school, he likes to play golf and watch a lot of sports. If he had never gotten a job in education, Dr. Davila would have been a lawyer. Somethings that makes Dr. Davila unusual or unique is that he knows how to fix shoes and he is also left handed. His advice to CMS students is “to stay focused, get their work done and stay away from the gossip and fights".
